Overseas Development

Jem believes in God’s heart for the poor and suffering, understanding faith and ministry as taking an active role in liberating those oppressed by poverty and injustice. We aim to work together with those on the ground in developing countries to bring about lasting change and holistic transformation within communities. We do this by supporting and promoting already existing grassroots projects that care for youth, neglected and abused children, orphans, refugees and marginalised people.

Jem seeks to be continually learning from partnerships with other countries and people groups. We believe in the equality and dignity God places on each person and race and so we desire to learn in humility and ongoing journeying with our partnering countries. Jem is currently partnering with ministries in South-east Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the pacific islands.

Our major partners are:

Australia

JEM - Arnhem Land

For the last four years, Jem has established a growing relationship within remote Aboriginal Communities in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. Jem has been taking teams of young people to serve and learn from and with Aboriginal elders, children and youth. This has proven to be an impacting experience for our teams as well as the communities involved. Outside of service trips, Jem continues to advocate for health equality and income generating and land sustainability projects for the Indigenous people of East Arnhem Land.

Thailand / Burma region

Judah and Dianne

Jem is partnering with Judah and Dianne who have been pioneering and establishing much needed programs along the Thai Burma border. Some of the ministries they are involved in include orphanages, hostels, migrant schools, emergency aid and medical help. They have also begun a ministry ‘Help Save the Kids’ which is a sponsorship program supplying much needed support and education for children who would not otherwise have this opportunity.

Bamboo School

The Bamboo school is a community in Thailand right on the Burma border, about 4 hours out of Bangkok. It houses and supports around 60 children who are orphaned, abused, medically-challenged, retarded or refugees of economic poverty. Many are Karen children from Burma who have come across the border seeking to escape the oppressive regime that is killing off their people. The Bamboo School provides accommodation, food, schooling and a supportive family environment. In 2009, a medical clinic opened and is now servicing the local community. FDLM

It houses around 50 orphaned children and seeks to support many more orphans living in foster care in surrounding villages. They are also heavily involved in aids education, micro-enterprise projects for widows and aids victims, health education, evangelistic outreach and more. Jenga

Jenga is an NGO (Non-Government Organisation) situated in Mbale, Uganda. Run by Pommie Robbie Keen since 2004 it seeks to empower nationals in community development to help bring the African people out of poverty. They are heavily involved in health and aids education, water purifying projects, micro-enterprise projects, running a health clinic in the biggest slum in Mbale and much more. India

Asha India

Asha India aims to support those on the ground who are reaching out to, rescuing and supporting victims and survivors of sex trafficking in developing countries. Through partnering with an NGO in Mumbai, Apne Aap Women's Collective, Asha India aims to support and advocate for the work this amazing collective is doing through financial support, partner projects and prayer. Asha India also aims to raise awareness around the issue of human trafficking for sexual exploitation in Australia.

Zambia

Zoes Hope

Jem is currently supporting the establishment of Zoes Hope, a Not-For-Profit enterprise to meet the needs of vulnerable children in Zambia. Zoes Hope plans to provide and maintain a centre for the care, nurture and development of premature babies and at-risk children in Zambia. They also aim to reintegrate these babies back into extended birth families and communities or into a safe place they can call home - where their ongoing needs can be adequately met.
