Northern Territory Mission Trip |
We have recently sent a group of fourteen people to Ramingining, Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. Here the group of youth planted 10 gardens within the back-yards of randomly selected people in the Ramingining community. The team was welcomed by the community with a sense of me-casa, su-casa, which then led to many different and exciting opportunities, delving deeper into the culture. |
Asher House Update |
Asher house girls and leaders were amongst the numbers in the team that went to the Northern Territory from the 27th September to 8th October. Asher girls from past years also came along, and together the team planted 10 gardens in the back-yards of people from within the Indigenous community of Ramingining. The team did an amazing job, with the Asher girls putting in 100%. |
Croydon House Update |
Juma and I recently went up to the NT which was a great ex-perience and I think Juma got a lot out of it. So Mary's been by herself a bit lately but she's been receiving English lessons and extra support from the MIC which is great. She is much more mobile and moving around than when I first moved in around the middle of the year. We've also just had a new girl, Mel, move in. She's 19 and doing a hairdressing apprenticeship. We look forward to welcoming her into the community. Jesse |
Mission Trip Update |
We've a couple of great passionate volunteers who will be dedicating their time over the summer in Uganda. Matt Hawkins (the brother of Luke) will spend 7-8 weeks helping out at FDLM and Jenga, and Alison Ramadge will be spending 6 months in Africa. We're excited to be working on a new project for global link, the International Development Internship Program. This is a chance for young people to gain work experience and training with a passionate Christian NGO working in overseas development and advocacy. We will be announcing more details soon! |
JEM School Update |
The JEM School is looking forward to the new term! We have some great new displays in our classroom of our Tim Burton paper Mache projects. Some of our students and teachers were lucky enough to g on the Northern Territory trip and we have a wonderful display of photos and memories in our classroom. The student and teachers that went on the trip had many amazing and challenging stores to share when they arrived back for the start of the school term. |
